Boating Lake Shasta, Vacation Part 2

Look at this happy man. Yes, it was a relief to find another one of these stations on Shasta Lake and the number of this station, 104, was 5 degrees less than what it was that day. The highest that it got while we were at Shasta Lake was 117 degrees. HOT!!!!
We originally planned to go to Whidbey Island, in the Puget Sound, to watch Race Week with our friends Tom and Marti, but due to the weather predictions of 60s to 70s we opted for going south. I'm truly sorry Tom and Marti, we'll make it up to you with a great steak BBQ (ok, we've already done that, but this time we'll have dessert too!). Our intentions were to explore Lake Tahoe, (highly recommended for a sailing vacation, again by my coworker, George Radominski, a very well traveled sailing man!). But after driving forever, (well, it seemed like forever due to the 100 degree weather by the time we got to Grants Pass,) we decided to drop in at Lake Shasta, since it was 7:00 pm and we were roasting and it was wet.
Lake Shasta is actually more than just warm water filled with houseboats, jet boats, and jet skis. It has lots of wildlife too. In this picture you can see a lizard that swam out to meet Craig and tried to climb up our boat. Needless to say it was exhausted in no time so Craig caught it in a bucket and let it out on a tree nearby. It was so tired it didn't even try to fight him.

Here's Craig filling our gas tank at Shasta Marina. We did actually see a sailboat docked at this marina, the only one we saw on Shasta Lake. It was about 110 degrees on this day. This was when we were talking to the marina folk about where the sailboats usually go. Thank God for Whiskeytown Lake!
